Homemade Dog Treats - Applesauce Biscuits

Here is an easy-to-make biscuit recipe for homemade dog treats using applesauce and peanut butter. They are super easy to make and can be stored in your refrigerator for several weeks. My dogs love these biscuits!

Please be sure to use natural unsweetened applesauce and peanut butter in your dog treats. Do not use anything with the label "lite," as it contains artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweetened ingredients should NEVER be used in any dog food preparation, as they are toxic to canines.

I use brown rice flour in my recipe to make the biscuits wheat-free, but you can substitute any other type of flour. The beauty about making your own dog treats is that you can control the type of ingredients based on your dog's food sensitivities or preferences.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of oats
  • 1 cup of brown rice flour
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup of organic unsweetened applesauce
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350° F (176° C)

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.

Melt the coconut oil before adding it to the mixture.

Knead dough until smooth. (Add additional applesauce if your dough  is too dry, or add additional flour if the dough is too soft.)

Roll dough to ¼ inch on floured surface, use cookie cutters to make  shaped cookies. You can also form the dough into small dough balls, if you don't have cookie cutters.

Arrange cookies on lined cookie sheet.

Bake for 20-30 minutes until lightly browned.

As biscuits contain no preservatives, be sure to store them  in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze them.

I hope you enjoy making homemade treats for your pets. Please comment below and share my post to your social media accounts.
